Wimmera plains of western Victoria around Horsham and Warracknabeal — flat golden wheat country broken by wheat silos, rail sidings, and the Grampians looming on the southern horizon.
DAY 147: VICTORIA ASSURES THE PUBLIC ITS WHEAT IS DIFFERENT
The history behind it
The Wimmera's towering concrete wheat silos (later famous as the Silo Art Trail) are here still full of grain — the Victorian Grain Board declares them 'emu-proof by engineering.' They are not. Local farmers, having read WA newspapers, pre-emptively petition Canberra for machine guns and are sent one (1) confiscated Lewis gun and a strongly worded pamphlet.

Warracknabeal Silo Complex
Grain silo · Defence tier 2
Three concrete silos ringed with Barbed Wire funnels steering the swarm into a single Lewis Gun Post at the loading ramp. Capturing it bursts a grain chute — the biggest single Food payout in the region.
Horsham Rail Siding
Rail siding · Defence tier 3
A Truck-Mounted Lewis shuttles along the siding road between two parked grain trains; peck its tyres near the water tower to strand it. A Rifleman Line guards the stationmaster's office.
Longerenong Agricultural College
Homestead garrison · Defence tier 2
Farm-science students 'studying the emu problem' — a Rifleman Line, a Sandbag Officer with a clipboard instead of a whistle (same buff), and supply crates of experimental feed (bonus Food).
Dooen Weighbridge Gun-Post
Telegraph station · Defence tier 3
The Grain Board's one Lewis gun, sandbagged on the weighbridge with a commanding sweep of the open plain. Wide approach, no cover — bring the mob and drown it in bodies while it reloads.
